CULTURED
PEARLS

CULTURED PEARLS

Other than the naturally grow pearls, we also farm pearls ourselves. In order to cultivate the best pearls, we have a lengthy time cycle for pearl cultivation and nurturing. From the seeding to cultivation to harvesting process, it generally takes 4-6 years or even longer. Among the harvested pearls, only 5% possess the roundness, luster, and surface quality required for high-end pearls. We do not compromise on quality and refrain from selling pearls with poor luster to consumers.

SEEDING PERIOD

The seeding period generally takes around 2.5-3 years. When the oyster matures and grows to a certain extent, the implantation procedure can begin. This involves implanting a small piece of mantle tissue or a nucleus into the oyster to stimulate the secretion of nacre and form a pearl. During this time, the oyster needs a certain amount of time to adapt and rest.

CULTIVATION PERIOD

The cultivation period generally takes around 1.5-3 years. For example, in the case of Akoya pearls produced by Pinctada martensii, they can secrete an average of 3 to 5 layers per day, with each secretion covering a thickness of only 0.3 micrometers. This means that the daily thickness of secretion is approximately 0.9-1.5 micrometers. Over the course of a year (365 days), approximately 1000 layers can grow. The thickness of the pearl layer is only about 0.3-0.4 mm, so it takes 3 years to grow to a thickness of 1 millimeter.

  • Luster and Brilliance: Good pearls should have a bright luster and vibrant colors. They should reflect light and produce a bright sheen when illuminated.
  • Surface Quality: Good pearls should have a smooth surface without obvious flaws or uneven areas. However, the natural pearl has unique growth patterns.
  • Roundness and Shape: High-quality pearls are typically perfectly round or near-round, while lower-quality pearls may have irregular or flat shapes. Please note that this quality grading is closely related to its price range, the higher the price, the better the quality.
  • Size and Color: The size and color of pearls are also important factors in judging their quality. Larger pearls and rare colors generally have higher value.

At GINGIBERI, we offer a compelling proposition for individuals seeking to purchase pearls. With our commitment to exceptional quality, ethical sourcing practices, craftsmanship, and personalized customer experience, you can rest assured to get exquisite pearl jewelry that will be treasured for a lifetime.
