WHAT IS CYBERPUNK
Cyberpunk started with literature during the 60s and 70s in the New Wave science fiction movement. The combination of the 'punk' and 'hacker subcultures' was a huge source of inspiration for these genre-defining authors and the cultural revolution they sparked. The name “Cyberpunk” was coined by author Bruce Bethke, who used it as the title for one of his short stories.
High Tech, Low Life
Its characters are punks trying to survive on the streets in a high-tech dystopian future. That future looks like skyscrapers, ubiquitous advertisements displayed via holograms, projections, or screens. It’s often dark or raining, and the reflections of the neon lights can often be seen on the rainwater accumulating on the streets or off the plastic, reflective surfaces throughout the mega-city.
High-end technology and low-level life are contradictory;
A prosperous society and a broken community are contradictory;
Rich businesses and poor refugees are contradictory;
Empty indoors and cramped outdoors are contradictory;
The gorgeous lighting and the sad atmosphere are contradictory.
Cyberpunk is built on these kinds of contradictions, trying to explore the relationship between technology and human beings through rebellion and change, and release the true self.
Standing up against the dictatorial order, challenging authority, and showing individuality with dress up. Live at the forefront of the times and lead the trend, to become the witness of change and also the leader.
Cyberpunk is Not Dead, and Will Never Die.
